SUMMARY:Discovering Quakers Second Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Friends who are interested in outreach are invited to join in Discovering Quakers’ second Annual General Meeting on Saturday 25th July in person at Peterborough Meeting House and on Zoom.  \nDiscovering Quakers is a grassroots Quaker outreach initiative that helps people who are curious about Quakers find their way in. They promote Quakers across the country through social media\, a website\, an email newsletter for those who ask questions\, weekly online events for seekers\, and publishing Quaker books. \nThe AGM is a great opportunity for anyone interested in Quaker outreach to share their experiences and learn about what Discovering Quakers and others are doing to spread the word about Quakerism. There’ll also be a filmed interview with Craig Barnett\, the Local Development Worker for Yorkshire\, who will talk about a successful initiative to bring young families to Quakerism. According to the YM26 Patterns of Membership report Yorkshire had the highest number of new attendees in 2025\, and this is an opportunity to hear how they did it. \nYou can find more details about the day\, which runs from 11.30 to 4.00\, on the DQ website.

SUMMARY:Quakers at London Trans+ Pride
DESCRIPTION:We invite all Friends – and friends of Friends – to join us on Saturday 25th July 2026 as we march for trans liberation\, rights\, dignity\, and love. \nThis is the 8th annual grassroots protest march: volunteer-led\, non-corporate\, and a major demonstration against transphobia\, with previous marches drawing tens of thousands of people onto the streets. \nRooted in Britain Yearly Meeting’s Minute 31 (2021)\, which states “We rejoice in recognising God’s creation in one another. This is what love requires of us\,” we will march to show the world that Quakers find that of God in everyone. At a time when trans and non-binary people face escalating hostility in public life\, in the press\, and in law\, we are called to put our bodies where our beliefs are. \nThis is an invitation to all Friends – trans\, non-binary\, cisgender\, straight\, queer – to stand together in visible solidarity. We hope to be joined by members of other faith communities who share this commitment. Showing up in numbers matters. Showing up as people of faith matters. \nPlease bring banners. Wear your Quaker t-shirts. Let our community be seen. \nAfter the march\, we will gather for tea\, coffee and worship – a chance to decompress\, reflect\, and be with one another. \nTo be added to the WhatsApp group for coordination and updates\, please email samwinder900@gmail.com with your number. \nThis is what love requires of us.

SUMMARY:Ecumenical vigil for those who have died trying to get to Europe for a safer life (July)
DESCRIPTION:On the third Monday of every month\, at 12.30-1.30pm there is an ecumenical vigil outside the Home Office in Marsham Street\, London\, to pray for people who have died trying to get to Europe for a safer life. It’s always a moving occasion\, with all the names read out and how and where they were found. Attenders now bring flowers\, and last time they had a map on which to place them as each name was read. \nIn June\, the vigil met on the first day of Refugee Week. There was a very large gathering\, including many young people from several Catholic schools in London and Birmingham. \nThis event is organised by the Catholic diocese of Westminster\, and includes many from Pax Christi\, the Catholic Worker and numerous churches. This is an issue which is precious to Quakers too\, and the Quakers who attend hope you can join them. \nThe following reflection was written by a student who attended the last vigil: \nPrayer Vigil at the Home office for Migrants – The Courage to Stand as One \n“Gathering outside the Home Office for our refugee memorial prayer service was a deeply moving experience. Under the theme of ‘Courage’ which is the theme for this year’s Refugee Week\, we came together to pray for all those who have tragically lost their lives seeking safety. \nStanding in front of the gates of power\, the spiritual impact was profound. As we prayed for the deceased\, all barriers dissolved—we stood united as one human family in the eyes of God\, ensuring their dignity is never forgotten. \nEqually impactful was the incredible community I discovered. Meeting so many people who share my exact passion and urgent need for change was inspiring. We brought our grief to the Home Office\, but we left united\, strengthened\, and ready to fight for a more compassionate world.” \n– Marie S\, Year 12 \n

SUMMARY:Time to Make Polluters Pay: Ending Big Oil Profiteering
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a major Make Polluters Pay panel event and reception at London Climate Action Week. \n \nAs public anger grows over rising bills\, fossil fuel profiteering and worsening climate disasters\, we’re bringing together journalists\, campaigners and voices from the climate frontline to explore how public narratives are shifting\, what stories resonate most strongly\, and how legal and political breakthroughs can help build broader public support for accountability. \nMomentum is building around the world. European finance ministers are looking to introduce new windfall taxes\, a major tax loophole was just closed in the UK\, and climate litigation from the USA to the Philippines is taking us closer to accountability for climate damage. The Make Polluters Pay agenda is moving rapidly into the mainstream\, and London Climate Action Week is a key moment to bring the movement together. \nChaired by journalist Megan Rowling – Climate Home News\, the panel will include Steve Wright – General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union\, Laurel Kivuyo – Climate Hub Tanzania\, Savio Carvalho – 350.org\, with opening remarks from Louise Hutchins – Make Polluters Pay Coalition. More speakers to be announced. \nThe event is organised for the Make Polluters Pay Coalition by Stamp Out Poverty and 350.org. With thanks to partners Oxfam and Global Witness. \nThere are a limited number of places available\, so please book your place now and spread the word – we’d love to see you there. \nSee more details on the Quakers in Britain Website.
