SUMMARY:Truth and repair - our Quaker journey towards justice.
DESCRIPTION:This event has been submitted by the Britain Yearly Meeting Trustees’ Reparation Working Group. \n\n\n\nThe BYM Trustees’ Reparation Working Group invites Friends to join a day of learning\, reflection\, and discernment through to the findings of the Historical and Theological Workstreams. We start with the call to action in Minutes 27 and 33 of Yearly Meeting 2022: \n\n\n\nLove and justice require us to tell the truth\, as best we can\, about historic and contemporary injustices. We encourage local and area meetings to begin\, or continue\, work to understand how Quakers and Quaker structures benefitted from the transatlantic slave trade. \n\n\n\nand \n\n\n\nWe have heard that love and justice also require us to consider deeply how the Society of Friends in Britain might make financial and other reparation for our part in the wrongs of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. \n\n\n\nWe have come to understand that we must first seek the truth\, both in the past and the present. Telling the truth about history and listening carefully to the lived experiences and enduring legacies of enslavement and trafficking of Africans across the Atlantic enables us to comprehend what needs to be repaired. This also requires us to recognise how the past harms of enslavement\, colonialism and exploitation continue to shape lives\, communities\, systems and inequalities today. \n\n\n\nThis conference will offer space not only to confront discomforting histories\, but also to consider how truth-telling\, accountability\, and spiritual discernment can help shape more hopeful and faithful futures. The learnings shared at this conference will help Friends prepare for discussions on reparation at November Yearly Meeting. \n\n\n\nTo register go to:  Truth and repair – our Quaker journey towards justice. | Quakers in Britain

SUMMARY:Festival of Biblical Literature
DESCRIPTION:From the festival director: One of the reasons I fund and organise the Festival of Biblical Literature is because I am dismayed at the way the Bible is being used by authoritarian regimes. Margarita Simonyan\, editor-in-chief of RT (formerly Russia Today) has authored a novel reinterpreting the Gospel of John. In the United States\, many churches are using the Bible to justify the appointment and policies of Donald Trump. In the United Kingdom\, Tommy Robinson (Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) is quoting from the Bible at his rallies. People of a liberal political persuasion seem unable or reluctant to challenge this. I hope that the Festival of Biblical Literature will assist that challenge. The festival celebrates the Bible as a collection of literature\, with seminars\, music and poetry. All the speakers have an academic background in Biblical Studies. The festival is independent of and does not receive funding from any religious\, political or ideological group. The festival does not include any worship or prayer. \nThe theme for the 2026 festival is\, “The fish of the sea\, the birds of the air\, every living thing that moves upon the earth\, every plant and every tree”. The ticket price includes lunch and refreshments.\n\nFind out more

SUMMARY:Discovering Quakers Second Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Friends who are interested in outreach are invited to join in Discovering Quakers’ second Annual General Meeting on Saturday 25th July in person at Peterborough Meeting House and on Zoom.  \nDiscovering Quakers is a grassroots Quaker outreach initiative that helps people who are curious about Quakers find their way in. They promote Quakers across the country through social media\, a website\, an email newsletter for those who ask questions\, weekly online events for seekers\, and publishing Quaker books. \nThe AGM is a great opportunity for anyone interested in Quaker outreach to share their experiences and learn about what Discovering Quakers and others are doing to spread the word about Quakerism. There’ll also be a filmed interview with Craig Barnett\, the Local Development Worker for Yorkshire\, who will talk about a successful initiative to bring young families to Quakerism. According to the YM26 Patterns of Membership report Yorkshire had the highest number of new attendees in 2025\, and this is an opportunity to hear how they did it. \nYou can find more details about the day\, which runs from 11.30 to 4.00\, on the DQ website.
